Energy efficiency & conservation are two important factors that are driving the growth and necessity of smart grid and smart meters. Energy management gateways are an interface between the smart grid and the end user. The generation, transmission & distribution at the grid level can be monitored, optimized for peak power demands and properly forecasting can be derived from past data. From an end user perspective, it is useful as they have accurate present and historical data and are tamper proof. Any time of the month the charges can be viewed and accordingly, action can be taken to reduce the overall energy consumption. Also as the data can be captured at the microswitch level, the overall efficiency of the devices can be measured and calculated which give great insight into the overall power consumption.
